Feb 21 2020

Zapier integrates with Google Sheets, probably one of the best-known apps in the world and what many millions of people and businesses worldwide use as their primary spreadsheet.

If you're having issues, the first place to check is Zapier's help page for Google Sheets, or contact their support (which is 24/7). Alternatively, you can book a call with us to get help.

In this guide, we're going to summarise some common errors and issues and what you can do about them.

1. "ExternalHTTPSConnectionPool(host='sheets.googleapis.com', port=443): Read timed out. (read timeout=39)"

When an action step runs, behind the scenes Zapier calls the target app's API to send data. Zapier will then wait for up to 30 seconds for a reply message from the API with data and/or a success message. If, after 30 seconds, Zapier does not get a response, it assumes there has been an issue with Google Sheets and shows this error (or a similar one).

One thing to keep in mind is that even though Zapier got no response from Google Sheets, if the error occurred on a "Create/Update Spreadsheet Row" step then the row may still have been created/updated.
